The Gatlinburg Space Needle

Rafting in the Smokies is the Real Deal!

When thinking of Gatlinburg, a space needle probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Isn’t that a Seattle thing? On the contrary, you don’t have to make the trek to Washington State to enjoy some great views. You can experience them right in the heart of the Smokies at the Gatlinburg Space Needle. Not only will you get a fantastic view of the mountains, but you can also spend an afternoon making memories at the onsite arcade. Or, catch a show at the IRIS Theater—there’s something for everyone! Read on to learn more about this unique attraction.

The Space Needle

The Gatlinburg Space Needle itself stands at a commanding 407 feet tall. Two glass elevators take you to the top, where you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the mountains and surrounding area. Be sure to take advantage of the free viewfinders while you’re at the top for an up-close look at the breathtaking natural beauty of the Smokies. The Needle is open seven days a week: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Friday through Saturday. You can purchase tickets, ranging from $9.95 – $15.95 per person, on the Needle’s website.

Arcadia

After enjoying the view, reward the kids with an interactive experience that’s fun for adults as well. Stop by Arcadia, a 25,000 square foot arcade located beneath the Needle. Purchase a play card loaded to fit your needs, and explore over 100 games. Pac-man Smash, Jurassic Park, and Time Crisis 3 are just a few of the exciting titles that await you. With escape rooms, an onsite pizza bakery, and one of the largest prize centers in Gatlinburg, Arcadia promises hours of fun for kids and adults alike. Play cards start at $10 and can be ordered online. The arcade is open year-round, 9 a.m.–12:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.–1 a.m. Friday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to midnight on Sunday.

IRIS Theater

After admiring the view 400 feet up and testing your skills at the arcade, it’s time to prop your feet up and enjoy a show at the conveniently located IRIS Theater. The theater’s intimate, 89-person seating arrangement ensures that any seat in the house is the best seat. Impossibilities — a family-friendly magic show — plays at the theater five nights a week at 8 p.m. (although the schedule sometimes changes in the off-season, so be sure to check their schedule for the most up-to-date information). Tickets can be purchased online and range from $12.95 – $19.95 per person.
