Rafting in the Smokies is the Real Deal!

As the temperature rises and the sun beats down on you during your trip to Rafting in the Smokies, consider cooling off at any of our go-to spots for cool treats in the Smoky Mountain area. Here is our list of the top four places to consider during your visit.

Rustic Cow

Serving up ice cream and smoothies as their specialty, Rustic Cow is located in Newport, just a short 16-minute drive north on I-40 from Rafting in the Smokies. In addition to serving up sweet treats, Rustic Cow also has a cafe where you can grab a bite to eat. If you’re whitewater rafting with a group, consider reserving one of their party rooms. Each room is perfect for accommodating 10-30 guests and the cost of the room includes a scoop of ice cream with two toppings for each member of your group.

Mad Dog’s Creamery

This sweet shop has two locations to cool off your taste buds. The flagship store is located in Pigeon Forge and the Gatlinburg location is a convenient stop on your way back into town from Rafting in the Smokies. The Gatlinburg store is also known for its selection of delicious donuts. Mad Dog’s Creamery encourages you to visit with your canine friend and they serve gourmet dog treats in the shape of mini ice cream cones and donuts! While you enjoy your delicious ice cream, your four-legged friend will love the complimentary water stations so you can both cool off together.

Curl de la Crème

Located in Pigeon Forge near Lumberjack Square, this ice cream stop steps away from the traditional scoop. You start by ordering your base (cup, waffle taco, or donut sandwich) and toppings, then watch the artistry as your ice cream is hand-mixed and folded into a beautiful and delicious masterpiece. For anyone who has dietary restrictions, Curl de la Creme offers gluten-free and vegan chocolate ice cream options.

Glades Soda Fountain

Step back in time to this ‘50s style sweet shop. This little gem is nestled in the Gatlinburg Arts & Crafts Community on Glades Road near Alewine Pottery. Enjoy traditional favorites like ice cream floats, shakes, malts, and sundaes. If you decide to stop in, say hi to the “jerks” behind the counter! Don’t worry though, we guarantee they will be as sweet as what they’re serving. They call them jerks or soda jerks because, in the old soda fountain days, the server would have to swing the fountain handle back and forth to add soda water.
