The Mill
Ely’s Mill is located on 25 acres next to Roaring Creek. It was built in 1925 by Thomas Jefferson Ely, an eccentric man who wanted to “get away from it all” and practice healthy living in the Smoky Mountains. Initially, the Mill’s water wheel powered a furniture shop where local artisans practiced their trade. A few feet downstream, Ely built another mill to grind wheat and flour. Today, the Mill is owned and operated by the same family that originally took care of Ely’s grounds. The owners are restoring this piece of Gatlinburg history, ensuring that visitors will enjoy the natural beauty of the Mill for the next hundred years.
