The Mill offers a unique opportunity to connect with local history, support the area’s craftsmen, and enjoy a relaxing getaway to a quieter, slower-paced time. Whether you’re just looking for an afternoon excursion or you’re interested in an affordable, but one-of-a-kind location for your wedding, Ely’s Mill offers a variety of services for your next trip to Gatlinburg.

The Mill

Ely’s Mill is located on 25 acres next to Roaring Creek. It was built in 1925 by Thomas Jefferson Ely, an eccentric man who wanted to “get away from it all” and practice healthy living in the Smoky Mountains. Initially, the Mill’s water wheel powered a furniture shop where local artisans practiced their trade. A few feet downstream, Ely built another mill to grind wheat and flour. Today, the Mill is owned and operated by the same family that originally took care of Ely’s grounds. The owners are restoring this piece of Gatlinburg history, ensuring that visitors will enjoy the natural beauty of the Mill for the next hundred years. Currently, the Mill shop sells various local items such as honey, antiques, and crafts. You can also browse their extensive collection of literature on the area and its history. Stop by the Mill to get a taste of the Smokies from days gone by!

Lodging

Ely’s Mill offers two cabins where you can book your next mountain getaway. The Millside Cabin comfortably accommodates six guests in 625 square feet. The space features an upper sleeping loft and a shower/jacuzzi tub combination, making this cabin perfect for a family vacation.
