Three Websites for the Outdoor Enthusiast You Need to Visit

If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, adventure, and learning more about travel ideas, we have some websites we recommend you bookmark for later use. You might also find some inspiration on what to do during the off-season.

Outdoor Project

https://www.outdoorproject.com/

This website offers an informative blog, which covers topics like adventure recommendations, stories and personal experiences, and nature and conservation. They also have a section dedicated to outdoor hiking, camping, and exploration activities for the Smoky Mountains. Becoming a member of the site (which is FREE) gets you access to field guides, maps, adventure tracker and organizer, and more.

Backpacker

https://www.backpacker.com/

Here you will find tips and survival advice for backpacking and suggestions and reviews for gear. They also have an online education section, so you can read guides on first aid, outdoor photography, and navigating in the woods without a smartphone. If you’re an avid reader who likes to “take it with you,” you might want to consider subscribing to their magazine. Check out the section on their site dedicated to the Great Smoky Mountains.

Adventure Journal

https://www.adventure-journal.com/

You might have seen the magazine, but have you seen the website? If you plan to do some camping or backpacking and need some recipe ideas, they have a whole section dedicated to everything from a hearty Mexican polenta to instructions on how to make bread while camping (you just need a pan to cook it!). They also have a section for backpacking and camping gear. You might learn a thing or two, like how containers can be labeled “bear resistant.” Yes, there is a program for testing products, and visitors can come and watch! Another awesome section in the website covers people in history who were explorers and adventurers. You can learn about Walt Blackadar, who is known as a pioneer in the world of whitewater kayaking, and Nathaniel Galloway, who built his own boats and revolutionized river running.

We hope you enjoyed these three websites to check out. While you’re here, why don’t you start planning your next visit to Rafting in the Smokies? We have activities for everyone!
