Granddaddy’s Watch – The Newest Drama of the South

If you’re looking for a family event that is both fun and educational, consider a visit to the Buttonwillow Civil War Theater, located in Pigeon Forge. The current production, Granddaddy’s Watch, is packed with drama, humor, and trivia. It’s a trip back in time to the American Civil War, when a Tennessee Unionist crosses paths with his Confederate sister and they become engaged in a heated discussion on their viewpoints of saving the South. The performance takes a light-hearted approach to remain entertaining, while incorporating prominent Civil War figures and facts.

Granddaddy’s Watch is written and directed by Steve Gipson, a veteran performer with more than 40 years of stage and television credits under his belt! In this performance, he plays a staunch Unionist with a dedication to his Granddaddy’s Union. Andrea Throne plays opposite Steve Gipson as his Southern sister, who stands her ground against her stubborn Union brother. She sets out to educate him on the true Southern viewpoint of the war between the North and the South. Quick on her feet and armed with uncanny timing, her delivery steals the show. Watch as she uses her wit to bring down the house and leave her brother asking himself “what just happened?”

Union or Confederate, North or South, this show has something for everyone and highlights key historical figures on both sides. You’ll be amazed by the trivia and fun facts you never learned in history class! A real treat for the kids is the full scale Civil War cannon that is on stage during the performance.

The Buttonwillow Civil War Theater is open every day of the week (excluding Christmas) offering shows daily.  The box office is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. if you would like to stop in and purchase tickets or have any questions. Adult tickets are $29.95 with special rates for senior citizens, students and children. Check current pricing and buy your tickets online.

If you are looking to organize a group outing, the theater is the perfect venue. If you have a group of 20 or more, contact the box office to see if you qualify for a special group rate. The theater will host special morning or matinee performances for any group of 30 or more. Contact the theater to inquire and make arrangements.

Are you an educator looking to plan a school trip? Student rates are $18.95 per person and complimentary tickets are provided for bus drivers and teachers. The show is appropriate for students ages 10-19 and surpasses the Tennessee state requirements regarding the subject matter of The Civil War.

The next time you are looking to make some memories with the family or plan a group outing, consider taking in the exciting and informative performance of Granddaddy’s Watch, exclusively at The Buttonwillow Civil War Theater. You’ll travel back in time to 19th century America where you’ll be entertained, educated and amazed!
